Its fascinating how we tend to attract more of what we focus on. I used to focus so much on the things I didnt like about my parents - how they didnt encourage me in what I did, how their philosophy of life was different than mine ... etc etc. I used to fight daily with them (but I thought they were making my life hell). I used to wonder whats wrong with them! Glad I finally realized what was wrong with me. Then I started focusing on their qualities I liked and the reasons I should be grateful to them. And surprisingly it was an endless list! To mention a few - - My Dad used to give me Rs.100 every week (separate from the pocket money) to call my girlfriend (those were telephone booth days), even when he didnt approve of our relationship. Lol! Can you imagine? - My Mom violently opposed my decision to buy rabbits, but once I bought she cared for them more than I did. - I dont know any other parents who went to visit their son on every visiting days (rain, transport strike, doomsday ...) during my 6 years in Narendrapur school days. Even they used to write letters every week, until I requested them to stop. :p - I have seen from my childhood that my parents has real giving heart. Whenever anyone needed help, friend, family or stranger ... my parents jumped to help with money, support or any other means possible. Not just then when things were easy for them, but also then when they were struggling in life. ... I was observing something admiring during dinner tonight and thinking all these. And then I realized that since I started focusing on the positive aspects of my parents, I am finding them quite adorable. Last fight? Ummm ... cant remember. Months back I suppose. Truly our life changes when we change our thinking. Gyan for younger people: Do what you want. But never ever get mad at your parents, no matter what they do to you. If you are confident about your choice, disobey them if you must, but do that with some love for your parents. Trust me they are not your enemies.
