Its finally here! #YOU_WILL_BE_ADDRESSED_BY_THE_WAY_YOU_ARE_DRESSED By: #Obed_Mawunyo_Kodjo Last year while in school (KNUST), and as a Departmental President, I went to the Ghana Commercial Bank (at Commercial Area) to have a transaction with them. I had to meet the Operations Manager so that we could endorse the necessary documents. That morning the bank was flooded with long winding queues of customers, as this has characterised almost all branches of GCB. After the deal was finally concluded, I went out of the managers office. I was, as usual, in my suit and tie and my executive file firmly gripped in my hand. As I was trying to wriggle my way through the winding queue, I was greeted by three customers: Boss good morning, we have been waiting to see you. Looking into their faces with a bright grin, I told them sorry Im not the manager, I was only there to transact business with him They mistaken me for the manager. Do you think it was because I was coming from the managers office that made them think perhaps I was the manager? Certainly not. Im not about to brag but I would say that, that morning I looked very executive to be mistaken for a young manager in the bank. And they couldnt have seen me any less than that. Again, I recall a lady who was my cousins roommate, who had all along mistaken me to be a married man who was established and drove my own car. She would have held on to that perception she registered in her mind about my personality if she hadnt seen my name and picture on a citation I received on the night of my handing over ceremony. She plainly told me that she never thought I was a student too though she hears me talk about academics and even help my cousin with her Geography assignments. There was also another instance when a group of students came to me declaring their full support to campaign for me because they felt I was someone who was going to contest for SRC president position. Another instance was when I was doing chemical analyses on some samples for my project work at the Department of Civil Engineering. The technicians, thinking I was in that department, and because they have never seen me before, asked me Are you reading your masters? Why? Because even when I was working with clay samples for my tests, I dressed in my long sleeve shirts and sometimes with my tie on. I want to maintain again that Im NOT trying to catalogue those instances as a means to ingratiate you. Rather, the rationale behind this piece is to serve as a testament to accentuate the axiom Youll be addressed by the way youre dressed. Therefore to my Beautiful and Elegant Queens in this fraternity, keep your dressings smart such that even before a gentleman would call you, he would shiver small and have to muster the courage...lol. To my fellow gallant gentlemen, lets do it the smarter way. Thanks for your audience. #Obed_M_Kodjo writes...
