Its here! The time of year when everyone is posting about starting new, being better, and making healthier choices for their mind and body. This is all so wonderful and I love reading everyones posts! But how many will actually stick to their New Year/New You plan, and how many will fall back into old habits? I want to throw one of my favorite quotes out there by Jim Rohn You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. I constantly revisit this quote because I find it to be so very true. If you really want to commit to change this year, try to think about the people you spend the most time around. If they dont have similar mind sets and goals you may want to seriously rethink who you are surrounding yourself with. Not to say you should start ending friendships and telling family members they are too negative for you, maybe just find a new circle of friends who are just as inspired and driven to start being around. I personally have only seen the most dramatic changes in my life when I have done just that. This being said I want to share a (not so fun) fact with everyone. I started thinking about how I would even come out and share this with everyone, and Im still not sure how to. So here goes. SO OFTEN my partner Nicole Costa Wbff Pro and I hear from clients that they have a friend who wants to try out Body Rock but is afraid to come. Or that they themselves were procrastinating for months or years before coming because they assumed they would walk into a room full of gorgeous, fit girls who looked like they came fresh off a Pinterest page. Although we are flattered by that perception, ,its completely false. Body Rock Inc. is a family. We are a group of ALL TYPES of people with very similar goals. We are all constantly working on our minds and our bodies to create the best version of ourselves possible. Nicole and I work extremely hard to find the best trainers and instructors to work with our clients and we consider everyone who walks through our door family. We are constantly working to better ourselves so we can continue to guide our clients, family and friends with inspiration and positivity. There is something magical about Body Rock. And I am not just saying this because its our studio. I think it all goes back to when we first opened Body Rock 4 years ago. We sat down and talked about what we wanted our new business venture to be about and how we could find a way to help people and create a new environment that wasnt just about a workout. We wanted to be sensitive to peoples needs and welcoming. We didnt want the traditional gym feel, and we wanted to help shape and strengthen more than just bodies. So heres my (not so fun) fact. I can sympathize with so many of you that put off walking into our doors. Those of you who may think about coming and talk yourself out of it, those of you who may even pull into the parking lot and then leave. Because that was me. And in so many cases still is. I have terrible social anxiety that has affected me in so many different ways in my life. It has gotten better with time and practice, but it will always be something I struggle with. Most of my friends know that they have to either meet me outside of a restaurant or give me exact details on where they are sitting before I am able to walk in alone, and that I choose outdoor malls instead of indoor malls because I can see the store fronts from the parking lot. The list goes on. Years before Body Rock, when it came to gyms I was the worst. I wanted to look and feel better, but unless I could see multiple open ellipticals from the parking lot I wouldnt go in. There were countless times that I pulled into the gym parking lot, tried to talk myself into entering, and pulled away. I would NEVER touch the machines or weights because I was so afraid that I wouldnt know what to do, and that someone would make fun of me if I tried and did it wrong. When Nicole and I decided to open Body Rock I shared these issues with her and we talked about ways to make Body Rock inviting to everyone, and a more private feel than most studios for people who have struggled as I have. I have improved drastically, but it has been a long process. I trained for my first fitness competition using only what we had in Body Rock. It took all I had to simply walk into the gym every day for cardio, and I absolutely wasnt ready to execute my workouts there. Even though at this time I knew how to execute the exercise and had become a personal trainer, I couldnt bring myself to do it alone. Slowly but surely I have rebuilt myself and become a stronger person physically and mentally. I still struggle from time to time, if I enter a new gym that I dont know or if my gym moves the equipment. I admit I have a slight panic attack. And I still prefer working out with a gym buddy. But I have completely changed the way I live, and I truly believe this never would have happened had we not opened Body Rock and had I not faced my biggest fears head on. By surrounding myself with all these wonderful people my life has forever changed. Im telling you all this because I want you all to feel WELCOME at Body Rock. No matter what you think you may be walking in to. No matter if youre a pro athlete or youve never lifted a weight in your life. This family is for you! Come surround yourself with positive people who will help you THRIVE this new year and stick to your goals no matter what they are. We know its much harder to drive over and walk into a class than it is to post a pic and a promise on facebook or instagram. But let this be your year to step out of your comfort zone and commit. (and by the way, if you see one of the perfect girls or guys in class that you think may intimidate you, I promise that by the time you leave you will feel inspired by them. Our Body Rock competitors and athletes are some of the absolute sweetest and most inspirational people around! And trust us, we HAVE asked people not to return to our studio if they have been negative or snobby! So no worries, you WILL fit in and you WILL be inspired and motivated by the very same people you initially thought you would be intimidated by) I hope you all have a very happy new year and let 2015 truly be YOUR YEAR. Sorry for the novel, but if this hit home for so much as one person Im a happy girl :) New class schedule starts next week! First class is free. Hope to see some new faces ;) BodyRockRI
