Its important to recognize that Common Core is not new. It is Outcomes Based Education and School To Work all over again -- a retread of failed communal and statist policies proposed in earlier administration. Common Core was preceded by No Child Left Behind, another statist, federalized-education program from the Bush administration. The topics of Outcome Based Education (OBE) and national education standards were particularly explosive during the 1990s when the public first began to understand the direction progressives were taking education. Largely thanks to the whistle-blowing of people like Charlotte Iserbyt (the website for her seminal work, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America, is deliberatedumbingdown), there developed pockets of resistance. States, if they were able to refuse the substantial financial incentives offered for their compliance, could opt out of this problematic new education system. Charlotte Iserbyt was in Reagans Education Dept. and she blew the whistle on nationalized education; was fired; spent the rest of her life documenting what progressives were doing to education. Common Core is just the latest in a series of destructive steps in the public education sphere: Outcome-Based Education, School To Work, No Child Left Behind, RTTT/Common Core -- All basically the same thing repackaged. And now it has found its way into Catholic education.
