Its interesting reading everyones FB post about the state of our country and the civil unrest. I havent posted much about it but I rely on data, historical accuracy and research. Mostly I have seen OPINIONS based on MEDIA PROPAGANDA and repost of articles. I am a BLACK Female, married to a BLACK man who has previously been ARRESTED during a random traffic stop. My parents are BLACK who have also been racially profiled (and my mom stopped by police), both parents have also been insulted and antagonized growing up in NYC. Should I even go into the stories of my Grandparents? Cousins? Have YOU ever visited family members in jail (for crimes they did not commit) HAVE YOU EVER been to court and seen the amount of black and brown men standing before a judge. HAVE you ever picked up a book and read about the Prison INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX (I took a course in college.) Have you ever been followed in a store or asked to leave ( 2005 Syracuse NY my sister and I were asked to show our college ID during a college shopping trip, because the sales lady didnt believe we were SU students) DO YOU wonder about the safety of your child from people in your community, schools and from Law enforcement I DO. Whose to blame?? You can take an active role in your community by helping others and volunteering, I have not marched in rallies or protested anything in years. WHY? because I choose to spend my time helping others and TEACHING my child to be a productive man. I will spend my time studying and reading so I can SHUT DOWN other when I hear about their so called opinions. The way we can help is by not being angry but (sounds cliche) by spreading love and praying for each other and being thankful for what little we have. _
