Its interesting to note that the people who say that Marxs analysis was wrong are the same people who pretend to be marxists or radicals. What I dont really understand is that even Time (and, few years ago, the Wall Street Journal) says: ok guys, Marx was right..so be careful, because if you dont fix the problems, the working class could get tired and overthrow capitalism itself. Instead, academic (self-proclaimed) marxists say: well, unfortunately Marx was wrong. Hey, no worries! We are going to teach you how to save capitalism! According to the capitalist class and their representatives, Marx was right. They know that their welfare goes hand in hand with more exploitation of the working class. However, they cannot go too far in doing this, because the system needs to be legitimized by the very exploited, that is the working people. More salaries and social rights are concessions that undermine their profits. Nevertheless, social reforms are necessary in order to save the capitalist system from its own tendencies (that is, the increasing of the working class exploitation). Instead, according to our radicals, the working class welfare goes hand in hand with the capitalist class welfare (ie, economic growth). This is the real problem: the capitalist class knows very well that she is fighting a class war against the working class. On the contrary, the working class (self proclaimed) intellectuals dont. Or maybe they do, but they probably have too much to lose if the working class get tired of this system.
