Its ironic that I would have to share it this way...but theres a bundle of truth in this short film. I know, because I see it every day. Empty playgrounds, no conversation...an eerie sight of an entire room full of kids, together, buried in their screens. The friends list is a bit of a lie - connected, yes, but not the way we used to be. When we were young we got into far more trouble probably than our own kids do now...but we learned. Made mistakes, bumped into things, knocked stuff over. We climbed, we built, we wrecked, we biked - loved, had fistfights sometimes with each other, made up, worked out our differences. We felt something...we interacted. We werent organized (still arent) and we just grabbed other kids to get together to play football and baseball - no need for organized, age regulated sports. I use technology every day. A lot of it, including phones and tablets and powerful boxes of wires that can think far faster that I ever could, faster every day. Ive tried to use technology as a sort of exoskeleton to help me tell stories...but Im pretty sure if this all came crashing down, Id still find a way to do it...because for me, its just always had to be done, to be told and to share in whatever way I could. Hopefully, the generations that have followed us will discover that too.
