Its kind of long but please read Now that the 2014 Drum Corps season is over, I would like to take a moment and share a couple of things with you. 1st off I had no idea the magnitude of responibility I would feel when I asked the school board to let Music City Drum and Bugle corps come to TCHS to house this summer. I knew these were good kids I wasn’t worried about them breaking or stealing things, that’s just a lot of people to bring into your home. I really felt like the Kids from our area would get to see that hard work pays off and that there is so much more that they can do. The school board, coaches, custodians and teachers were great. We took over the school, sleeping in some of the classrooms (MS Howie, Coach Glover, and MRS Cunningham’s rooms) using the gym, football field ,the practice fields and any other flat service. And all that Music City got from the school system, was support. And when I asked for help to do special meals, food prep, lighting or Sunday devotion, the people of our county delivered. I can tell you I’m so proud to live in this county and to call Iuka home. You can’t begin to know of the messages, emails and verbal comments given to me by staff members corps members and/or their parents, telling me how great our school was, how clean and well maintained ( they couldn’t believe it was 23 years old) also they talked about how nice and hospitable the town members were. The day of the show I looked up and the stands were full, I was walking on air what a great show of community support for these young folks. I hope for those who have followed my post this summer you saw how hard these kids worked and the dedication that they put into the show. I also hope that more of our kids will go on to march with a drum corps somewhere it’s a summer of memories for them. I’m lucky I was able to travel some with Jon this summer; I now have a few more sweet memories to look back on. Music City Drum corp. was able to finish in 8th at the open class competition, rising to 6th position within the open class when competing again in world class. They finished 27th overall. Hopefully I have said that right. A few people I would like to say “Thank You” for their donation, time and help include. Tishomingo county sheriff office, along with Ricky and Nicky Cummings for the use and setting up of the lighting to practice after dark. NMMC Iuka for looking after our sick and injured.
