Its my very earnest advice to all of you who are preparing for SSB, to not to read books on SSB preparation as these will make you stereo-typed and your responses highly coached. Especially, Psych technique practice, which I find many candidates doing it even on face book, actually robs you of your complete originality. If you will take a reality check of who are mainly practicing on the fb, you will invariably find most of these candidates are repeaters from various SSBs. Unfortunately, they feel that SSB is a paper-pencil test, where you have to practice some tests and write them well to get recommended. Not realizing that your responses in various psych tests are corroborated with each other and crossed checked with your background information supplied by you in your PIQ Form and further aligned with your responses given in personal interview and the tasks of the GTO series and it is only at the end of the five day process during the Board Conference that a final personality profile of the candidate emerges. Any candidate who is able to understands that the task/test is NOT important, but YOU are important, will easily be able to clear SSB. Hence, to achieve this the focus of your preparation has to shift from the Task to YOU. Conversely, you will have to first understand as to what is expected out of a potential officer material, what is your present level and what is your plan of action to fill this gap. From my personal experience in this field, I can say that most candidates need to broaden their knowledge base, so that they are empowered to participate meaningfully, enhance their public speaking skills, so that they are effectively visible during various activities, understand and exhibit pleasant social graces, so that they are accepted better in a team, project high energy level and dynamism towards all collective tasks, to charm others. God has made all of us unique and we have been brought up in different environments, and hence, what works well for one may not work equally well for another. Therefore, please be careful while practicing, so that your existing errors and biases do not get compounded due to incorrect understanding of who you actually are.
