Its never fun to get blamed for something that wasnt your fault. Its even worse when the one pointing the finger is actually to blame. This whole thing with Kobo, its really thrown me for a loop. It looks to me like this was a website issue, not an author one, but were the ones paying the price. For them to arbitrarily pull just about everything self published just because it was self published is horrifying to me. Its a huge step backwards for the written word. Its a huge step backward for authors in general. One thing I had really loved about the entire concept of self publishing was the idea that books became available that never would have before. In an interview, I said you always hear those weird stories about famous books that almost didnt get published at all - self publishing meant that sort of thing would become more and more rare. It meant there wasnt someone else that everything rode on, deciding for the public what it was and wasnt allowed to read. If all indie authors are going to be treated like this, however, its a kick to the teeth of that idea. Its simply unacceptable, and a sad time for everyone like Constance and I, and so many others.
