Its not enough to just tell others on Facebook to make dua for the complex situation in our country - thats just a starting point, which well leave to the non-Paks. But as Paks, We ARE Pakistan and we *must* do more to change the status quo within our abilities, our status and our spheres of influence. Of course we are limited, but as a bare minimum heres something that us Paks must do and if anyone else wants to join us then ya ahlan wa sahlan: 1. We Paks are some of the most corrupt people on this planet. Sorry, but it is what it is. If that offends you, you just might want to check yourself a bit more closer. Even when we turn a new leaf and start practising Deen many Paks still fall into fraud, cheating and corruption even though they think their new fasting, praying and dawah makes them great and better than the rest. We MUST purge ourselves of fraud and cheating. From the guy illegally downloading copyright content, to the Aunty illegally claiming disability badges, to the Uncle blagging benefit, to the family not declaring absences abroad as they continue to receive child tax benefit, to more serious crimes in the community as well. WE MUST CLEANSE OURSELVES first and foremost from every lie and fraud and desire to cheat or blag or illegally claim things etc. We only get what we deserve. We are corrupt and so we get even more corrupt leaders. Simple. And if our punishment at the hands of such leaders wasnt enough, dont be surprised if Allah jalla wa ala sends a few extraordinary natural reminders as well. 2. See, political office obviously has to find its candidates from the people. And guess what? WE are those people. So if youre someone who is clean mA or youve now purged yourself from fraud etc, then comes the next stage to overall change, which is to cleanse the rest of the people around you and in wider society and yes that means political change will eventually happen as well. This is not rocket science. This is not the role of the government, or the scholars or the Molvees or whoever. This is OUR role. We ALL know someone (perhaps many!) in our extended families and friends who is involved in fraud or a blagger or involved in corruption of some sort: this is one of the delightful bonuses we receive of being a Pak. Find that person. Make it clear to them how shameful and utterly unacceptable that action is to them, to you, to Allah, to the Deen, to the Ummah, and to our Country. If you dont have the ability or the guts or the status to do it, use your brain and find a way. Find an elder and use them as your front. If the guilty party *is* that elder lol, then find someone who is older. And so on. As far as they can keep moving up the food chain, so can we. We can ALWAYS find someone to do the behstee of the guilty party. No-one is above reproach. And Im not saying just doing next mans behstee is the way, or to go vigilante or go all ISIS on them and of course the usual principles of dawah, hikmah and huquql-ibad must be maintained - thats a given - but we can no longer stay silent and turn away because of the sheer awkwardness of the situation. Life is awkward. Life is uncomfortable. Life has to navigate this mess, not run away and hide from it. This is obligatory upon us all, so get used to it. Folks, if we do just these two things, I can guarantee you that in front of Allah you will have done your obligatory service to yourself, this Ummah and your country. Lets at least get this show on the road first, and we can then start looking at political solutions as well soon after. May Allah guide us all to what is right, and make us those who guide to what is right, and make those whom we guide, to be guided aright. Ameen.
