Its not going to be a very merry Christmas for the many New York - TopicsExpress

Its not going to be a very merry Christmas for the many New York Times writers who are currently being laid off. I hate seeing this great newspaper once again firing many top journalists. The paper continues to lose money, and some belt-tightening is clearly necessary. But it is sad, nonetheless. I feel bad, too, for acquaintances of mine whove worked for The Times. (And yet some in positions of power at the Times continue to take home huge salaries, which are hard to justify as the paper keeps shrinking and losing money--the head of Human Resources, for example, receives an annual compensation of nearly $2 million; and the Times continues to pay sizable dividends to the family members who have a controlling stock interest. Family members are taking what they can, while the paper contracts.) Its disheartening; you cant keep shedding top writers without affecting the quality of the paper. Thank you to The New York Observer (and writer Ariel Kaminer) for this detailed, nuanced report. observer/2014/12/new-york-times-insider-multi-million-dollar-shortfall-causing-drastic-cuts/
