Yes Derrek R, George K, John l, and Flo M are all bad ass mofos, with insane chops but what beyond their scholarly study of drums makes them better than the guys who/or did play their hearts out? Dave Lombardo is the king of the same beat for every song, yet look at Slayer? Paul Mazurkiewicz, Cannibal Corpse? Total feel players like their heavy metal predecessors Ward n Boham (very learned drummers but they dont just beat off because its music first). I thank Dale Erdman for pointing that out to me, many years ago, when I was learning drums (still am!). those drummers play perfectly for their bands and for the most part, look at the level of success both have obtained...
