Its ok! Go! Please go! The old lady urged, If you stay, I would be more sad. As tears rolled in the young girls eyes, the old lady pushed on her arm, Go! Dont cry! Go quickly! You still have a long way to go. Go quickly! Be quick! The girl wiped away tears, as her feet turned, the old lady continued, Go! Go! Go! Go! If you stay I would be saddened by your stay! Ignore me! The girl finally walked slowly away weeping, the old lady explained, I would like to stay with the students until the final moment. The students have contribution to Hong Kong. What they did was for the sake for Hong Kong… They did everything for us, did they?… There would be no result… on the day I came I knew that… On the day I came I knew it would be futile to help the students, my help was superfluous, wasnt it? Now it is superfluous, we have done so much already. We havent gained nothing, have we? As the camera shifted to focus on the protesters who joined the sit-in for being arrested as the most important part of civil disobedience, the old lady continued, Disappointed. Of course, I am disappointed. The students have done so much, they did not even eat. For what? They could not eat, they could not rest, they could not even attend the classes. I hope that they would be at school, dont sleep and sit here on the street. I feel tremendously sad, if they were my kids I would feel sorrowed. When they went on hunger strike, I was in grief. As I translated the old ladys words, the difficult thing was she had been using one Chinese phrase to describe her sadness for the students only - Nan Gwor (難過). But I interchanged the phrases: sad, sorrow and grief… perhaps I have been too helpful to use different words in describing a feeling.
