Beirut has Risen This video shows images of Beirut taken during the (civil) war of 1975-1990 when destruction was all over, and of Beirut after the ruined areas were repaired and how they look like now. It is a contrast between then and now. It is about the rise of a city from the ashes of destruction to survival. The singer who wrote the accompanying song specially for Beirut is the Italian Joe Diverio, who used to be the star singer at the ‘Cave des Roi’ in Zeitouneh, the club everybody would go to on Friday and Saturday nights. Those were some days, my friend ! Joe Diverio lived in Beirut till the beginning of the war. He is paying tribute to the city which survived that vicious war.
