Its one thing to be an activist and speaking out, but to complain - TopicsExpress

Its one thing to be an activist and speaking out, but to complain about the election results is somewhat contradictory in my eyes. I know I may offend some grassroots organizers or individuals, doesnt matter to me. in fact no one approached me to help in the organizing of this effort. With so many personalities running for change I found it almost impossible to come together as one. What I saw was a complete lack of motivation to unite the grassroots organizations and individuals to create this vehicle of change. In my mind I believed that if we were organized we would have had a stronger showing. By the way Im not referring to anyone candidate, but a collective of those who ran as the opposing force against the status quo candidates. Until we come together then, we will never have that opportunity to create this change we all want so bad. Change is needed. Until then I will support who I think is best for bringing our people to together regardless of what one may think of my decision. Many think that this election process is a whitemans political game and not healthy for our people. Okay what else do we do? I hear that word decolonization....its a great word, but this ideal and value of keeping our people pure of thought and words will never be possible until we the change agents make it happen by organizing and creating that strong organization for change. Im not down on any one, its the reality I see and have seen and experienced on a personal level. I m not here to belittle anyone, only to say what I feel I need to say. if we the grassroots organizers want to help guide this nation we have to start somewhere. All my life I have spoke unity...UNITY!! I humbly say that over my lifetime I have organized thousands upon thousands of Dine into action, wether it be protests, annual meetings and gatherings, creating and advocating important policy issues and laws affecting our Dinetah, I have tried my best to bring about unity. Many , many communities in the past have come together for that change we want....example the uranium effort, which I believe was the main voting block that elected Joe Shirley for his second term. It was the anti -uranium communities, organizations, and individuals who organized by the hundreds to help bring about the moratorium banning uranium mining and processing on Dinetah. We also developed the five year plan that the Shirley administration used in its presentation to Congress. Also we had strong policy support from many non-Navajo expetrs who helped us craft some very important wording, and research for the moratorium on banning uranium mining and processing. Yes it could be done and yes it can be done. I for one will continue my work with who ever is elected in bringing justice to our people. I might strongly add that Joe Shirley opened that door for us to help create the message to Washington, and he and we also brought the Navajo Nation Council. Navajo President/vice Presidents office and the Navajo nation Judicial branch into one voice....regarding the uranium ban. President Joe Shirley invited us, the many dozens of communities, organizations and community leaders to sit at the table. I am thankful for that. Yes it can be done. I witnessed our power to organize and create change. I look to this election with an open heart and I am not naive nor am I confused. I see that if my and others talents are not use in the best interest of the Dine, then we will surely lose our path to unity and Independence. I pledge that I will assist our elected leaders the best I can. I am not young anymore, but older, and much more wiser, These are my thoughts. This process was a collective effort of very talented Dine and non-Dine who worked so hard together to bring about change. It can be done...to sit at the table of our elected leaders in helping guide our Dinetah forward. Just saying.
