Its our Sanctuary Open Day in less than a week we are looking forward to meeting all of you animal lovers! To confirm click here: https://facebook/events/572420006196365/ Today we would like to share a very sad story of Toot - our miracle pony. Nobody ever believes us when we tell her she was not able to walk for one year, when she arrived at the farm. The picture shows Toot in 2011 and Toot at the Open Day last month Toot the Miracle Pony In May 2011 volunteers from the Al Bahia Sanctuary found a pony on the side of the road on the way to the Sanctuary. The weather was hot, the pony had no food and no water, her back leg was dislocated and her hoofs were outgrown so bad that she could not stand up for long. Luckily the Sanctuary team was able to find a vet to check on the mare, the vet relocated her back leg and the farrier from the same stables trimmed her hoofs. The Sanctuary Team returned her to the farm, where she came from, not knowing what else to do and asked them to take good care of her. What a mistake! A few months later in July Gogo and another volunteer were driving to the Al Bahia Sanctuary and Gogo had the idea to check on the little pony. The condition Gogo found her in was horrendous! The pony was worse than before, there was no food or water available, the Sanctuay Team was shocked and sadened by so much neglect. The mare was not reacting, she was waiting – maybe even hoping to die. Looking into the hope-less eyes of the pony Gogo had no choice, but to promise her that she will never leave her again. Being unable to transport the pony, which was not even able to stand Gogo brought hay over and called the Sanctuary groom Albert asking him to check on the pony twice a day and take care of her. The pony, now called Toot also Dut- meaning Mullberry in Turkish and Arabic had to gain some strength before being able to make her life-changing journey to the the Al Bahia Sanctuary. This also gave the Sanctuary Team time to build and an enclosure for Toot as there was no way to put her into the same enclosure as the donkeys. For one month Albert, the Sanctuary groom came to visit Toot every morning and every evening. The Al Bahya volunteers also visited her as often as they could. Removing almost 300 ticks off her body, mainly the mane and tail area kept everyone busy. The little mare was fighting, surrounded by people who loved her and respected her because she is another lovely creature of Allah. Toot knew she was safe and that life would change from now on. After a year of love, care and patience in 2012 the miracle pony Toot is comfortably walking around the Sanctuary. 18 year old Toot will live the rest of her days in peace with the love and care she deserves. This is not a story of saviors, so far from it. Toot’s recovery is her own accomplishment. She is a fighter and she kept fighting. The message I wish to give with sharing Toot’s story is this: All creations of Allah is sacred, most valuable and to be respected. We human beings sometimes forget that Allah trusted us with all his other creations. He trusted us, he didnt send us toys to play with and push aside when we dont want them anymore. We may benefit from their existence but this does not give us the right to abuse and hurt them sometimes through pure malice, most of the time through neglect. For all the blessings Allah gives us, including his other creations, we should be humbled, not spoiled. If an animal cannot speak our language and tell us it is hurt, it is thirsty, it is hungry; this does not mean we can ignore it. Disrespect to his creation is disrespect to him. All we have to do is listen to our hearts. Our conscious, our heart always tells us the truth. Yes it took time but the few things Toot needs is food, water and above all love, care, respect and safety. That is what she found at the Al Bahia Sanctuary. All my humble thanks go to my dear volunteers. Allah bless you all. - Gogo. Toot now enjoys her days at the Sanctuary, grazing around the farm, visiting all the other animals and being groomed by our volunteers. On very good days you will even find Toot having a little trot around, which the Sanctuary Team never thought would be possible when she was found in 2011.
