Its our tradition, so it will continue. Folks, this applies not just to this grotesque, horrific festival; this adherence to tradition and the way its always been done is just as much a part of our western carnist culture. We must bring attention to the horrible abuse and slaughter of animals all over the world and we must reject the notion that cultural traditions trump ethics and compassion, but we must also look to our own treatment of animals here in this country. Harming animals and slaughtering them to satisfy our cravings is not okay even if it is firmly a part of our tradition. Its not food. Its violence!
