Its sad to see families experience situations like this especially when sheep are their livelihood. I spoke to Hopi Ranger Clayton Honyumptewa and we had a respectful conversation about these impoundments. Mr. Honyumptewa explained that meetings were held to address the land management and drought issue. And warnings were given out to the families that had exceeded their herd capacity. Apparently the Navajo Nation has not stepped up to assist these families or taken the necessary steps to resolve this matter by meeting with our Hopi relatives. Two families got their herd of sheep back. In the end, we need to learn to work together as Indigenous people without allowing the federal government and corporations like Peabody Coal to continue to divide us and create imbalance and disharmony in our relationships together. These power and controlling tactics only benefit their (federal government and Peabody Coal) greed and exploitation of the land. And in the process, unfortunately we are their puppets. This has gone on long enough. When are we going to learn that its wrong and not beneficial to us and our ways as Indigenous people. Please share far & wide! And if you can, make donations to assist the families being affected by these unjust acts enforced by the federal government and Peabody Coal. Ahehee.
