Its sad to see that most Canadian young Muslims who left their faith had the following in common in their youth / childhood: 1) born and raised in very conservative / strict Muslim family; 2) had a horrible experience relating to gender interaction / treatment of women / forced marriage at a young age; and 3) quite often their exposure to philosophy or studies in humanities enlightened them enough to do away with God and religion all together. While everyones experience is unique and we shouldnt be judging anyones struggles in spirituality, its quite obvious, Islam was practised in the family as rituals essentially and many cultural practices were imposed as religious obligations. Its partly because spirit was removed from rituals and faith had no relevance to ones practical life. What a loss, indeed!
