Its springtime - nesting season for birds and wildlife. Why is UCSF suddenly deciding to do maintenance work now? Theres been a lot done already. Frankly, theres probably more danger crossing the street to get to the forest than there is inside it. Heres their letter: ----------------------------------------- Beginning on Monday, March 17th, Bartlett Tree Experts will be performing tree work throughout the UCSF Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve trail system in order to mitigate potential hazardous trees. This work will consist of trimming, pruning, and/or removing hazardous trees, branches and limbs that are overhanging, or in close proximity to, trails throughout the Reserve and pose a potential danger to trail users. UCSF is committed to maintaining Mount Sutro as an open space reserve that can be enjoyed by visitors from throughout the city, the Bay Area and elsewhere. We have received a number of emails and phone calls from open space users that have expressed concerns about safety due to the current conditions, and it is part of our maintenance program to ensure the safety of all who use the trails and the rest of the Reserve. We appreciate your patience during this work and encourage you to use caution when visiting the Reserve.
