Its suppose to rain tomorrow, so I decided to take another late afternoon ride today - everything went really well except for nearly getting hit head on by a 4 wheel drive pick-up as I crested a hill. I guess thats the things about country/dirt roads - everyone tends to drive in the middle of the road for some reason. I think it freaked out the guys in the truck out more than it did me - guess no one around here expects to see a motorcycle tooling around the back roads. I never see any - only an occasional 4-wheeler. Another weird thing happened during the ride. While I was parked by the bridge some guy with crazy eyes and a lady in a truck stopped and asked me is I was okay or lost or something. Then the guy made a bizarre comment about longitude and latitude and let out a low laugh you would find in a low budget suspense or horror flick. When I told him that I was the pastor from Welty and just out for a joy ride, he looked at the lady next to him and then back at me as said, Well damn! Pastor out here, by himself in no where, riding dirt roads and all - aint that some f****** s*** you dont see everyday! Go Welty Possums. Then he gave me a strange smile and a thumbs up and drove off. Truth be told, the guy might have been the nicest person in the world, but whole thing struck me as being a bit creepy - made the hair on my neck stand up and had me considering my course of action if the guy started getting out of the vehicle. Its kind of sad, but it made me think of yesterdays ride and finding the remnants from the huffing party and some of the comments that were made about meth labs. I guess you never know. By the way, I have no idea what he meant with his last statement. There hasnt been a school in Welty for 30 years or more - and Im pretty the mascot wasnt a possum.
