Its the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, yet no one is allowed to talk about it here. Many of my coworkers are unfamiliar with the event; their textbooks dont teach about it. Those who are aware of it are unsure of details; fear of being reported means that all they know was conveyed to them in whispers by their parents. Searching the event online renders one subject to the governments notorious IP-tracing and detainment methods. Until the day that those protesters can be seen as heroes in their own countrys history, I hope that the West can keep their legacy alive. Please take today to appreciate your freedoms of speech and assembly, which were so cruelly ripped away from that group of young revolutionaries. In memory of those who were killed at Tiananmen, let us remember that freedom isnt free.
