Walker tips Townsend to make big impact, Villas Boas scouts Barcelona B and King’s tribute to the Daws Walker tips Townsend to make big impact: Kyle Walker has tipped his Spurs teammate Andros Townsend to make a big impact in next year’s World Cup in Brazil should they qualify. Townsend produced a man of the match performance against Montenegro in England’s 4-1 win and bagged himself a goal in the process. The dynamic winger sliced the opposition defence time and time again and topped the night off with a sublime strike from outside the area. Walker only had good words to say as he was beaming with joy after the success of his partner down the right wing’s debut. “Yes, I think (he could make the squad). I hope (so). I hope this is just a stepping stone for him to showcase his talent and go on to do big things,” he said. Dont forget he has had to bide his time to get a place, he hasnt just walked into the team, but I just hope for him that he carries on putting on performances like that and we get to where we want to be in the summer. “He is really confident and you could see that against Montenegro. He just wants to get at players. “As a defender you dont want a right winger who is left-footed running at you, its dreadful, and he is confident to go either side. “I told him at half-time that he was going to score. I just sensed he was going to do something. He was on fire. He was getting at people, but I didnt think it was going to be such a good goal - especially with his right foot as well.” Villas Boas scouts Barcelona B: Andre Villas Boas was spotted at a Barcelona B 0 – 1 defeat on Sunday against Deportivo La Coruna B’s with speculation rife as to who he went to see. Villas Boas is said to have been most impressed with Adama Traore, a Spanish winger of Malian descent who is rated as one of the hottest prospects in Barcelona’s famed La Masia Academy. Villas Boas was also said to have been questioned about Bale’s sudden career threatening injury, as some would exaggerate. “I cannot talk about Bale, as he is not my player,” He said. On the La Liga title race, AVB added: “Barcelona is very strong. Real Marid is still there but we mustn’t forget Atletico Madrid, who are strong and very motivated.” King’s tribute to the Daws: Legendary Spurs defender Ledley King has paid tribute to Michael Dawson and is delighted that his former teammate has signed a new deal with the club. “When he first came here he was such a young lad,” said Ledley. “My first thought was ‘competition’. Any player would look at a player coming into the club in his position and think ‘I’ve got competition here’. So that was my first thought. “Of course, I then got to know him and Michael is a terrific guy, a great personality and an infectious character. It was great to play alongside him and very easy to play alongside him. “He’s become a real leader at the club and I’m thrilled he’s going to be here longer, and this new deal will take him beyond 10 years, which is a great achievement. © e-Spurs 2013 All rights reserved no part of this document or this website may be reproduced without consent of e-Spurs
