Its time to take sides... big oil vs. beautiful orcas! We have already seen an increase from around 20 to around 80 tankers a year carrying diluted bitumen. If the company has their way and builds their new pipeline (through the most populated areas of the province) we would see that number increase to over 400 tankers! Not only is this oil for export not for us but its a major step in the wrong direction. We need to be on the path to reduced fossil fuel consumption not turning our beautiful inlet into a gateway to global warming. Enbridges pipeline is a horrible ideas and so is Kinder Morgans. It is not the compromise pipeline as some have suggested and the Vancouver harbour is not a sacrifice zone. These beautiful creatures showing up right in the path of Kinder Morgans tanker traffic We dont need this oil in BC or globally. Through a mix of land use and transportation planning and smart investments in solar, wind and geothermal alone we could not only eliminate the demand for this toxic oil but we could actually create a lot more jobs too! Please get involved in this fight! Big oil is not going to let go of their pipe dreams easily. Its going to take all of us to turn this around. The dolphins and orcas are counting on us, our communities health and safety is at risk and the global community needs all of us to face the climate crisis head on. We have an opportunity to do something really important.
