Its truly amazing what we teach to our children, isnt it? Sometimes its the most surprising lessons and interests, the ones that we dont necessarily try to pass on, that stick with them longest . This amazing picture makes me think of my dad, especially today, because its been two years since he was here with us. Probably the most important thing he passed on to me was his love for the ocean. This may seem small compared to the big picture of life in general, but if you know me at all, either personally or through my work, you know that to me the ocean is life. Its my constant metaphor, the way I frame my perspective on a daily basis. It drives my creativity, my sense of charity, my curiosity. And even on the saddest days, like this one, it brings me comfort even when its miles away. All of these things I get from the ocean, I shared with my dad. So appreciate today and the waves that come. Surf when you can and stand up right away if one knocks you down. Make time to play, and hang out with friends, and never leave the beach until after the suns gone down.
