Its un-freaking-real how our collective reaction to mass shootings - TopicsExpress

Its un-freaking-real how our collective reaction to mass shootings has become a sigh, a sad shake of the head, a shrug of the shoulders, another sigh, and.. thats it. Can someone tell me, in concrete terms, what we need to do to stop this lunacy? Can someone tell me what *I* can do? Who do I write to? What movements/organizations can I join and give money to? Im aware that this is a multi-pronged approach and nothing will change overnight. The powerful lobbies that are profiting off the blood of innocent people are a massive force to contend with. And we have to give the mental health discussion much more attention than it currently has, too. For those of you who are thinking about your right to own a gun (and yes, I have a few of you on my friends list)... stop whining. It was, once upon a time, a right for those who legitimately needed to defend themselves against real threats. But now, our right has become our excuse, and our stubbornness clouds our better judgment. The fathers of our country were wise, but they were not omniscient; they were not gods. They didnt have the foresight to see what monsters we would become, all in the name of our rights. We have proven time and time again that it is NOT a right. It is a wrong. Just like its a wrong for someone to die because of a gun in the hands of someone who doesnt need it and shouldnt have it in the first place. WRONG.
