Its with such sorrow and heartbreak that Im writing this. Now almost a week has past since I got the tragic news that a very good friend David Hendren passed away. I know how Im feeling and my thoughts are very much with his family. We shared many a good time following Cowden up and down the country since the mid-80s. The Kirkford Tavern bus was great crack with Davey Nivs, Scottie Gallacher, big Fergy, Billy Duffy and a very young Colin Young plus others. 1st big high / bit of success was the day we clinched promotion at Alloa - this day will never be forgotten. We were one of the 100 odd die-hards to see us beat Dunfermline 2-0 the season after, when Wullie Cal blasted a double. Some great memories. Away days from Stranraer to Dingwall or Peterhead. Davey missed a few seasons due to him starting his own business, however he always looked out for our results. It was great to see him back the past few seasons. Like me, the play off final was one if the best days of his life. We started drinking (me slightly under age) in the Silver Tassie, then onto our 2 nd home The West End bar for many years to follow. In 1995 we made our 1st Scotland away game in San Marino along with Ron Mcpherson n Stevie Mitchell. Like following cowden, we got the bug n continued our travels around Europe. We returned to San Marino 5 years later for the away double header with Croatia. What a trip with Peter Dickson Chris Olszok David Stuart Donald Fraser n Derek Christie. Another memorable trip was Latvia flying to Helsinki, ferry to Talllin. Few nights on the beer in Estonias fabulous capital then overnight bus to Riga. Also marvellous lads trips to Blackpool, Kos and Benidorm. The list is endless. A true gentleman, a top bloke whom nobody ever had a bad word to say about.
