It’s Not About Mental Illness, It’s About Regaining - TopicsExpress

It’s Not About Mental Illness, It’s About Regaining Soul Rollo May said that the artists are the first to express what is in the unconscious of the average person. I think the reason Zombies have exploded on the cultural scene is that Americans identify with the Living Dead. Erich Fromm: In the nineteenth century the problem was that God was dead. In the twentieth century the problem is that man is dead. Regaining Soul youtu.be/EhF2xMmm_tQ Rather than agreeing with the medical model of mental illness promulgated by Big Pharma, I agree with the anti-psychiatrists such as R.D. Laing, with Carl Jung who emphasized individuation and the importance of personality type. What I believe some people labeled mentally ill do is to concretize concepts that they cannot put into words, that are unconscious. In order to become conscious of parts of themselves that are unconscious, they need an interpersonal context that puts them into contact with their feelings of tendency, that helps them to verbalize what is unconscious in them. They need role models for what is, probably, their personality type which I suspect is different from the personality type of members of their family. They need to actualize and become conscious of their gifts. They need to find an environment that matches their personality in their work life. All that unfolds the I-process, sets soul flowing again, gives them a sense of rootedness in their own nature, their participation in the Whole of all nature. The psychoanalyst Hans Loewald said mental health is communication between our conscious and unconscious selves. That is what is missing in those our medical-model loving culture calls "crazy."
