It’s been a while since our last update. Every day I give thanks for all of you. Kristin is doing so much better and enjoying life so much more. Her level of improvement has been astonishing since her diagnosis of Lyme disease and Bartonella. As it turned out, helping Kristin was only the tip of the iceberg. Our entire family has been affected by Lyme disease. Tipper and I were diagnosed in November and Casey, thanks to your generosity, was able to see the same Lyme literate doctor that Kristin saw in New York. Our hope was that he would be able to prove that Casey was unaffected by this disease but her blood tests and symptoms proved differently. Most people’s first reactions is disbelief that Lyme could affect an entire family but as I get to communicate more and more with people with Lyme the more I realize that we are not that unique. It is quite common for mothers with Lyme to have children with Lyme and often the fathers are affected, too. There has not been nearly enough research done to understand this phenomenon. It is most often contributed to sharing a common environment. Research has also shown that 50% of children born to mothers that had unknown and untreated Lyme during pregnancy will be positive for Lyme disease. We do not have any conclusive answers as to why we are all affected and most likely will never know for sure. Kristin and Casey’s diagnoses were made possible by all of you and many friends, family, and even strangers. Now I am in the process of helping my former neighbor, Lisa Morris, raise funds to see the same doctor in New York. Lisa was our neighbor for ten years. Lisa was Kristin and Casey’s daycare provider when they were younger. Lisa and I walked together, gardened together, and had awesome campfires out back on our wooded lot together. Now Lisa, who was once my biggest motivator and inspiration to exercise and stay physically fit, is disabled with symptoms strangely similar to Kristin’s. She is bed ridden the majority of the time. Is this a coincidence? We don’t know but would love to find out. Your willingness to help Kristin has inspired me to try to help her and others. It is my hope that Kristin’s Fund will eventually morph into an ongoing fund to help others, too. Lisa has started a Go Fund Me account for her friends to contribute to so she can make an appointment with Kristin and Casey’s doctor. I am posting it here for anyone who may know Lisa and would like to contribute or for anyone who, like me, would like to see her find answers. This is not a completely unselfish act. Knowing if Lisa has a tick-borne illness or not helps us piece together the answers to the when, where, and how of this mystery and may give us a little more insight to this disease. If it is not tick-borne then I am confident that this doctor, unlike so many that has given up on her, will be able to help her search in the right direction. Your generosity has changed our lives and maybe saved them. If you have some extra change, even if it is just a little, please consider helping out Lisa, too. gofundme/7s80kg?pc=fb_u
