It’s been reported today that the set of long-running ITV soap Coronation Street is undergoing some dramatic changes in as much as an entire new street is being built which backs onto the façade of houses on the nation’s favourite street which of course could indicate that the show’s bosses are planning on introducing potentially dozens of new characters who would live in those houses. The Sun’s TV Biz has exclusive pictures of the new set and of it, the paper reports, “As our aerial pictures show, they have used the opportunity to add some extra features to the set potentially allowing space for a whole host of new characters. Among additions are homes along adjacent Mawdsley Street — seen only as a backdrop until now.” The show’s set has of course moved to the MediaCity complex in Salford, about which Producer Stuart Blackburn said, “Everything’s going well. There’s no published date for the move, but Salford should be ready for us towards the end of the year. As far as is humanly possible, the audience won’t notice the difference.” Meanwhile, a worker on the site said, “Everything is brand new, though we’re taking care to make the houses look like the original set. The last thing viewers want is them and the Rovers looking like they were built last month, even though they were. There are a lot more exciting options with the new set — including new characters who live in Mawdsley Street and the flats.”
