It’s impossible to understand what childhood cancer does to a family unless someone has gone through it themselves, says Julie Gordon of DeWitt. Her son, Brandon, died in 2009 at the age of 16 after a two-year battle with a rare form of cancer called Osteosarcoma. After his death, she founded a nonprofit called Brandons Defense Foundation to raise money for research and to provide services to families.
