It’s taken well over an entire year and a ton of hard work but last week it all paid off. Last Wednesday I was accepted into the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Helicopter Pilot Program. Over the last year Army recruiters told me that I maybe had a 15-20% chance of actually making it into the Helicopter program because I was getting older and approaching the cut off age for new applicants, I didn’t have prior military experience, and finally zero flight experience. I was told that any time during the process I could be cut. Over the past year I’ve had to undergo several flight physicals, pass general aptitude tests, score high enough on written flight exams, score well enough on PT tests and sit before a board of several high ranking Military Officers to decide if I could continue along the process. The board agreed that I was Warrant Officer Material and recommended for my application packet to be sent to the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) to finally approve or deny my entry into the program. Last Monday the USAREC board met for their quarterly meeting and selected 6 applicants for the WOFT program. I was told I was the 3rd selected of the 6. I will be leaving in November for Fort Benning Georgia for basic Training and then Head to Fort Rucker Alabama for Officer School and Flight School. The work isn’t over, I have to make it though both Basic Training and then Officer School to take my seat in the Helicopter program and then of course graduate the program over 2 years from now. Caitlin you’re the best, you’ve been so supportive in my pursuit of my dream. Many times during this process it felt like I was just spinning my wheels and would start to loose motivation and sight of my goal. You always encouraged me keep giving it everything I had and re-focused me. I will forever be grateful babe, love you. Abbey, thanks for always being there for me, it meant a lot that you were there to see me get sworn in. Abb, you’ve always been the rock for me to lean on when I needed you the most, and you’re always the first I turn to. Dad thanks for all the encouraging words; you know how hard I’ve worked for this. Mom I love you and I will always be your boy, I will do my best to remember to call you whenever I get the chance…
