It’s that time, again! The fall Troutacular Kid’s Fishing Day will be held this Saturday (October 18th) in Cub Creek Park beginning at 9 am. This will be our largest stocking (600 plus fish) to date in relation to the town sponsored spring and fall kid’s fishing days! Troutacular Kid’s Fishing Day – October 18th, 2014 9 am – 12 pm The Town of Wilkesboro invites you and your family to come and enjoy beautiful Cub Creek Park for a fun filled day of fishing. The Town of Wilkesboro in partnership with the Wilkes County Chapter of Hunters Helping Kids, Wynneifeld Properties, and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will host a Kids Fishing Day at Cub Creek Park on October 18th from 9 am until 12 pm. The Kid’s Fishing Day also referred to as Troutacular will be open to children and youth 15 years of age and under. Individuals 16 and older wishing to fish are welcome to do so after 12 pm. When fishing after 12 pm, all Individuals 16 and older are required to have a valid NC fishing license. Parents or guardians are to be present with their children at all times. Fishing in Cub Creek Park will be closed on October 16th and October 17th for stocking and will be monitored by NC Wildlife Agents. A generous donation by Wynnefield Properties, the developer of Covington Way Apartments, and Hunters Helping Kids has provided funding for the purchase of 200 extra fish for this fall Troutacular event. “The staff at Wynnefield Properties and Hunters Helping Kids have been wonderful to work with and we are very grateful for their community mindedness and support of the Troutacular Kid’s Fishing Days,” described Andrew Carlton, Wilkesboro Planning and Community Development Director. “This year’s stocking will be more than 600 fish, by far our largest stocking to date for a kid’s fishing day!” A partnership with Hunters Helping Kids will provide fishing expertise on site during the event as well as activities and demonstrations. The NC Wildlife Commission will be operating a self-contained air rifle range onsite during the event. Hunters Helping Kids will also provide free food during the event as well as a “fish cleaning” demonstration for lessons on how to prepare trout for the dinner table. All activities and fishing are FREE to the public. Children, youth, and their guardians should bring their own fishing equipment and bait. Small amounts of bait and loaner poles will be available, but will be given out on a first come first serve basis and are not expected to last long. Representatives of Hunters Helping Kids will be onsite to answer any questions and to assist with fishing techniques. Youth 15 and under do not need a fishing license.
