It’s toy run time! Every year; for the last twenty years; a group of motorcycle riders have come together to bring toys to the children of Sumner County. Some years there were a lot of riders and some years not so many but they all came together to make the holiday a little better for all the kids in Sumner County who might not have had anything under the tree on Christmas. On Saturday, October 29th 2013 a whole lot of motorcycles will be rolling into town loaded with toys and canned goods headed for the VFW to drop them off. They will start the journey in Belle Plaine, lining up in the center of town starting at 11:00 am. The ride will head out at 12 noon with an escort from the Belle Plaine police department until they get to the interchange with highway 81 where Sumner County sheriffs take over for the ride to Wellington. When they get to the city limit, the Wellington police department takes over for the final leg of the ride. A chili feed and auction will be held at the VFW when everyone arrives. There will be hearty chili and a lot of great gift baskets and other items to bid on. Everyone is invited! Come by, bring a toy, canned goods or cash and stay for the auction while enjoying some great chili! All proceeds are given to Operation Holiday of Sumner County. A big thank you goes out to all the hard working elves that make this toy run possible every year! And to the dedicated law enforcement that help us every year too!
