It’s with a very heavy heart that I have to tell our FB and Geocaching friends that our little buddy, Bulli, crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. He had begun a bout with congestive heart failure a few weeks ago and we had him on meds that were apparently working to keep his little ticker going. He had begun over the last few days to seem to be struggling a bit to take his normal yard walks and had definitely become an air conditioning lover, much, much more than was normal for him. Last night we both noticed that his respiratory rate was at an extremely elevated number, at least compared to what it had been on the meds. This morning, he was struggling to get sufficient air and he was panting attempting to get the oxygen he needed. I listened to his heart with our stethoscope and it was very irregular and more rapid than it could stand for long. He was very uncomfortable and could not settle down at all. It broke our hearts to see him so unsettled and in obvious pain. We took him to the vet and, after she listened to him and observed him, gave us a list of options for further treatment. All of them were invasive and would have required him being hospitalized for a few days with no guarantees that any of it would work. It hurt, but we exercised the only viable option to keep his last days from adding to his misery. He was, without a doubt, the best little companion for us that we could have ever asked for. I’ve had pups all my life, but have never been as close to one as our Bulli. He loved being around people and many of you can count him in your circle of friends. He was a cacher extraordinaire! He was always ready to go, even this morning when he obviously felt so bad. We will always have memories of our Bulli, who shared so much more “people” events than most pups! He has always given us more than we ever gave him! RIP, Little Bulli! You are loved!
