Ive Got My Mind Set On You fit George Harrison so snugly that most fans still assume that the song was written by George - and in 1987 it became the final #1 record by an ex-Beatle. But the original recording dates back to 1963, performed by R & B artist James Ray, featuring an ornate arrangement, full choir and a big band production. The James Ray version failed to chart, but George Harrison discovered the single on a pre-British Invasion visit to America in 1963, and vowed to record it one day. Heres the original recording for your consideration. Side-note: James Ray was a homeless young man when discovered by his producer, and in two years was dead of a drug overdose, at the age of 23.
