Ive always wanted to do something about retirement facilities. Not - TopicsExpress

Ive always wanted to do something about retirement facilities. Not the fancy apartments that promote a sense of community and independence, those hold pretty well on their own, but rather the ones that are just a place to put people. Theyre so...droll. And to think of spending each day of the rest of your life in one of those... god, how can anybody do it? Ive always thought if they just installed a simple but exceptionally beautiful garden to which the residents can escape...with simple fountains and hardy plants that take little maintenance. I wish I could organize an initiative. A group of people that take a day every week or every other week to go around and install/maintain these gardens (perhaps even a sort of indoors patio area for places with harsh winters?) we could make such a massive difference in the lives of so many. Maybe put one of those nifty free little libraries in there? A section for residents to garden and take care of their own plants? Even something as simple as a patio area with some canopies, lawn furniture, bird feeders and the like... I dont understand. Its not that hard to make a crappy place into a pleasant atmosphere and a few inexpensive and minor changes could really work wonders for the daily lives of many. It should be a priority. Even just to allocate some staff members for an hour a day to maintain the gardens. Just another issue I feel helpless to change. :(
