Ive been a fan of Marshall McLuhan since the sixties. McLuhan basically paid a lot of attention to the primary role of media in determining how we think and perceive the world and how we structure our societies. Not the content of the media, but the nature of a medium itself. Heres an essay on his notion of retribalization.
