Ive been asked if I ever do anything OUTSIDE of P90x or Beachbody programs to keep fit or lose fat. Even though nothing has given me the results like Beachbody programs, some have been just as effective to add to my schedule. Do I occasionally deviate? Absolutely yes! The list is extensive. Ive done everything from Crossfit, power lifting, calisthenics, bowflex routines, to running 5ks multiple times a week in unison. One of the most effective workouts ive encountered is the tabata style workout (named after its creator). It builds muscle, muscular endurance, and burns fat very efficiently. The best part? You can mix it up with any set of exercises you want. Its perfect for when you dont have any equipment and want to squeeze something in. So what is it? Get yourself a tabata timer app on your phone, and it traditionally consists of : - 4 separate moves - For 8 times, do 20 sec work (maximum speed and intensity), 10 sec rest for each move. An example of 4 body weight moves would be: - Pushups - Situps - Pullups - Squats So you would do 20sec work, 10 sec rest, 8 times for each move, with NO REST in between moves. It will have you huffing and puffing, otherwise you arent going hard enough ;) This video outlines the basics of it. Play with it, have fun, and add it to your routine once a week or so.
