Ive been avoiding watching the Ben Afflect/Bill Maher spar-off b/c - TopicsExpress

Ive been avoiding watching the Ben Afflect/Bill Maher spar-off b/c I wasnt sure I had patience for it in a week where Bill Maher already advocated Islamaphobia as a liberal ideal, CNN harassed Reza Aslan with rhetoric about the Muslim world and an AR gun range owner has barred Muslims from using her gun range. Its apparent to me that this is what we do when we want to justify wars in the Muslim world. Whats interesting to me beyond Bill Mahers inability to look at the Muslim world with nuance is the fact that he equally doesnt contribute much of the fundamentalism and extremism in many of these countries as the result of centuries of colonialism and recent foreign policy and abuses by the U.S. in the last several decades. Religion may be the excuse, but the causes are so complex and include a variety of our manipulation of power structures for oil, putting leaders in power who would favor certain groups or marginalize others, and so much more. We cant just point the finger at fundamentalist Islam when we look at ISIS w/o also considering how we had a hand at creating this. So, here it is. Ive succumbed to watching the Ben Affleck thing. https://youtube/watch?v=XduMMteTEbc
