Ive been doing a lot of behind the scenes work over the past - TopicsExpress

Ive been doing a lot of behind the scenes work over the past couple of days gearing up for the re-release of 4 albums, the first release of a new single and prepping for the live album mixing/mastering in que... Meanwhile I just heard from my friend Andrew Gorny, who has so graciously been helping me transcribe the music scores from selective songs from my albums arranged for drums, bass, guitar, keys and saxophone. The purpose of this: to enable me to perform these arrangements with a band in various cities/countries, to use top notch musicians with minimal rehearsal time if or when needed, and to know the parts will be consistent across the board. Its been a blessing to have his help with this as it takes me a LOT of time to type out these music scores, and quite frankly, hes much more time efficient and experienced with the Finale software program. My initial vision was: well, I already wrote the music arrangements and recorded them, so why spend time typing them out if I can hire someone? Id rather spend that time writing new material! So now is the fun part... Andrew Gorny, being the incredible composer he is took some liberties when writing out the chart for Raining a Miracle. He casually told me that he wrote in a piano part, so of course my imagination went wild thinking of what his brilliant mind might have come up with! I was anxiously awaiting to see the score... And wow, I must say that this launched a whole new world of ideas in composition and arrangements! So here Ive been now for the past many hours... First reading through some scores and checking out the parts/arrangements, making a few notes, then seeing that piano part for Raining a Miracle.... And I hit the ground running with compositional ideas. I have to say, its been a while since I sat with Finale (music notation software) and worked on a score. Im so meticulous with this stuff and prefer to hand write, but the benefits to the software of course are the playbacks and ability to be digital. To say the least, Andrew inspired me to start typing scores for new music that Im working on as well! And of course I had to chime in on that piano idea because something sparked. :) So heres one lesson that I constantly learn: Delegate where you can. And then? It enables more time for the creative elements. :)
