Ive been following and reading arguments on both sides of the Ordain Women movement. Its thought-provoking, and my heart goes out to those women who feel their lives are lacking because they dont have an ordination certificate or callings as bishops or other traditionally male-held leadership positions in the Church. In the end, it comes down to this for me: I dont need it. Spiritually, I already have all the rights and privileges of the priesthood. Practically, I dont need a certificate to receive all the blessings of temple covenants or to lay my hands on anothers head and pronounce blessings (as a temple ordinance worker and as a mother). It seems to me that the Lord is bestowing upon men through ordination that which we women have already received from Him as our birthright. As for Church organization, the Lord may choose to change it up in His own time, but if He does it will be through revelation, in His own wisdom, not ours. It is not an accident of history. His kingdom has been ordered according to what He knows is best for us now, and I trust that He, through His servants, will guide us to work together as men and women to attain our ultimate goal of eternal life with Him and our loved ones. This life is a test. Perhaps holding onto faith in His perfect plan in an imperfect world, even if one perceives herself as oppressed, is one of those tests. Think of how the world was for women in the Saviors time. Im sure He deplored societys harsh and unfair treatment of women, but He nonetheless worked within the culture of the times. Yes, many of His most devout disciples were women. And yet it was twelve men He called as apostles. Faith tells me He had a purpose in doing so, and it wasnt because he didnt trust or love the women in His life. Those faithful women will receive all the Father has, and so will we if we dont falter in keeping our covenants, however things may seem in this life. I dont need a certificate and a line of authority to qualify me for eternal glory with God. I just need faith in Him and patience as I wait upon His will.
