Ive been having lots of discussions with friends about #transgender issues as of late. And I totally get the importance of things like the using the correct pronouns and such. (One would THINK itd be common sense that asking anyone about their genitals is rude - but apparently #trans people are asked this all the time? #wtf) Although the rules and courtesies of interacting with trans people are fairly straightforward and ultimately just basic human decency, I just couldnt wrap my head around living as a trans person. I kept asking myself, Whats it like being a trans person? I get it intellectually... But I dont *GET* it. So I asked Google, and stumbled on this great post written by a trans woman. She totally made it clear to me what its like. BONUS: Her use of a car metaphor is what really brought it home for me. My brain was like a Camry someone had tried to fuel with diesel — it wasn’t meant to run on testosterone. I wish someone had given me this analogy years ago!
