Ive been hesitant to ask this question but sometimes I wonder why feminists dont claim the word men? So one could say one small step for mankind and have it apply to all people. And instead of asserting that feminism is the proposition that women are people too one could say feminism is the proposition that women are men too. Is there something about reserving that word men for the historical record of a time when being male was privileged? Or do males resist extending the umbrella of that word to cover women? Or do women want to be respected for wearing female and encourage respect for the difference? Cant we invent a new word to refer to males and then have the historical language become a reading in of the general intent implied? In the same way that the right to vote grew from landed whites with property to encompass all citizens so too could the intent of the word man grow to cover all people.
