Ive been in Moab, UT for about three hours. I found a campground right in downtown which is refreshing because I havent been out and about much. It is as hot as hell here in the desert. Maddie and I were walking down Main Street and she came upon a puddle on the side if the road and without warning sat right down in the middle of the puddle. When she was ready to proceed, we found a great spot for an early bite to eat. It is the Peace Tree Cafe. They are pup friendly and we are sitting on the patio in the shade with a cool mister above us and a light breeze. When we arrived, our server brought a dog bowl filled with ice water and made sure we knew where the dog park is a few blocks away. I enjoyed the most wonderful organic field green salad with shredded carrots, cucumbers, bean sprouts and cranberry, jalapeño yogurt dressing. The burger I ordered was a mouth watering rare grass fed organic beef burger on a fresh baked roll with lettuce, tomato and finely sliced purple onion. I sampled the specialty margarita and that too was delightful. I seldom return to the same place when I am on vacation but right now my taste buds are dancing!!!! A few bites into my meal a gentle dog approached Maddie and I. Maddie was sniffing her and wanted to play. The owner of the dog came over quickly and apologized. He was a Rastafarian-looking dude and he didnt smell overly fresh. I told him he had a lovely, gentle dog. His response? Well, she doesnt actually belong to me. She belongs to herself. She is a free spirit. We have been at the ocean on a surfing gig for three months and she told me she is a mountain dog. Thats why we are here. We are heading to the mountains. I wished them well and to myself I wished he would leave quickly so I could breathe again. Sometimes I think I am a magnet for the bizzare. Downtown Moab has many restaurants, taverns, gas stations and grocery stores. I feel like I am in civilization again. I checked into my campground for a few days and plan to slow the pace and see Arches tomorrow or the next day. The photo I am including is Wilsons Arch. It was a stop on the way up Rt 191. Maddie and I were both ready for a stretch break so we decided to stop and check it out.
