Ive been learning about pine pitch. There is a lot more to it than just starting fires! If you have pine trees nearby, look for any white streaks running down the tree - follow it up to a gooey glob at the site where the tree the wounded - broken off limb or gash. Take a putty knife or any blade, press into it - it will feel like soft wax - put it in a plastic bag. The blade can be cleaned off with acetone or paint remover. Dont worry about climbing the tree if pitch is too high - make a small gash with an axe or other sharp device lower down and it will generate its own right there.
