Ive been meaning to inquire about this for over two weeks. On the night of the full moon a couple weeks ago on Friday the 13th, I saw for the very first time in my life blue lightning bugs. Has anyone else in the NW Indiana/Chicagoland area been seeing these too for the first time? I looked it up on the internet and learned that they are usually seen in the southern states, such as S. Carolina and Tennessee. They can stay lit for up to 30 seconds but Ive only seen them lit up to 12 seconds. Im curious as to why they have migrated so far north this year. Anyone have any insight to share about that? :)
