Ive been nominated by the lovely Alie Lombardi to list 10 books that have resonated with me and, I might be paraphrasing, that inform how I experience the world. This is a tough one as there are books that have been just plain enjoyable and many that have changed how I see things. Here it goes! 1. We, by Yevgeny Zamyatin 2. Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut 3. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams 4. Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe 5. The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, by Junot Diaz 6. For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Earnest Hemmingway 7. This Side of Paradise, by F. Scott Fitzgerald ...This is getting very stressful with only two spots left... 8. Breakfast of Champions, by Kurt Vonnegut 9. The River of Lost Footsteps: A Personal History of Burma, by Thant Myint-U 10. The Epic of Gilgamesh* I nominate Jonathan Marchant, Jared Mason, Eira Morgan-Jones,as well as some SITers! Cameron Berube, and Chrissie Faupel! Some of you have recommended books that made this list (or nearly!) and most of you have been subjected to my recommendations in turn. So, what books have stuck with you through the years? *If you write fiction at all you should really read this. It will remind you that everyone has always enjoyed a hero, love interests and super powers. There are many ways to read the first story and this is only one. Along the same line of logic I was tempted to list The Bible, which is also interesting when the new testament is explored from a historical lens.
