Ive been nominated for the song/album/musical moment a day for five days project. Ive already posted all my favorite albums/songs/concert highlights of 2014. But I want to mention Mark Bryan (of Hootie and the Blowfish fame) who opened for Edwin McCain 04.24.14 at The Club At Stage Ae. Over the years Ive learned to appreciate opening acts, keeping in mind that everyone was an opening act at one time. Bruce Springsteen opened for Anne Murray in 1974 (stop and think of that pairing in 2015). In recent memory Ive become an instant fan of Ben Sollee, Erick Baker, Sean Rowe and Seth Glier, just to name a few, after Ive seen them open for a headliner. Ive always been a fan of Hootie and the Blowfish, but have only seen Darius Rucker solo. What an unexpected treat it was to see Mark Bryan out with Edwin McCain. Mark was so comfortable on stage sharing his music and of course getting a great response and recognition with Hootie songs. And he joined Edwin later in the show - those two have great rapport and comfort level with a long friendship. So pay attention to those openers, you may be seeing the future Boss performing.
